A legacy of exceptional service, steady growth, and visionary leadership from our Central Indiana bank
North Salem State Bank (NSSB) is a locally owned community bank located in North Salem, Indiana. NSSB was founded in 1923 and is committed to providing its customers and its communities quality products and quality service through a dedicated and professional staff, while enhancing shareholder value.
NSSB began expanding its market area in 1989, with the opening of our second branch location in Danville, Indiana. North Salem and Danville Main remained the only two branches until 1995, when the bank opened its third location in the Danville Kroger. North Salem State Bank was one of the first community banks in the area to try this type of supermarket facility. In 1996, NSSB expanded into Greencastle, and opened our second supermarket facility there.
With steady expansion over the years, North Salem State Bank strengthened its presence with the opening of a new full-service branch in Greencastle in 2007, replacing the former supermarket office that no longer supported the bank’s volume. In 2010, a second full-service Danville branch was introduced along Old SR 36, just west of the Hendricks County Fairgrounds. Additional growth came in 2013 with the opening of a Lebanon branch, followed by the debut of the bank’s first standalone deposit-taking ATM in Danville in 2014.
The momentum continued in the years that followed, with a second Greencastle branch opening in 2016, followed by a branch in Plainfield in 2017, and a Clayton branch in 2018. The Jamestown branch opened in the spring of 2020, and most recently, in 2023, the Avon Operations Center.
This expansion and growth could not have taken place without the vision and leadership of the Board of Directors and the Executive Management team. Their leadership has allowed the dedicated staff to know what the bank is about, where it is headed, and how the staff’s continued efforts and excellent customer service will help them meet their goals.
